What is nettle tea?

Nettle tea has been around for thousands of years.
In ancient times, the drink was used as a medicine for various ailments.
In modern times, the tea has gained a reputation for curing arthritis and skin problems – though this has yet to be scientifically proven.

Nettle tea hides a fine and delicate flavor.
Nettle by itself can have a grassy flavor that sometimes resembles spinach, but in herbal blends with e.g.
licorice root, the tea becomes more sweet and delicious.

The burning herb

Nettle(Urtica dioica) is a flowering plant that has not only been used in traditional medicine for centuries, but also used in cooking and textile production.

During the First World War, many German military uniforms were made from nettle fabric. To this day, some European countries – including Germany – continue to produce nettle textiles.

The plant is primarily from Europe, Asia and North America – but is also found in parts of North and West Africa.
It thrives best in cold regions with nitrogen-rich soil where it can grow up to 4 meters high.

Both the stem and leaves are covered with fine, stiff hairs that release histamine, among other things, which is what can sting when touched.
